Law, Arts and Propaganda in the 20th Century Totalitarian Regimes


Totalitarian regimes have long understood the power of culture not just as a tool for propaganda, but as a means of shaping national identity, reinforcing ideology, and silencing opposition. This conference will research the profound and often disturbing relationship between authoritarian rules, artistic expression, and legal structures. 

From architecture to film, sculpture to opera, law to street art, we will examine how artistic and legal frameworks were manipulated to serve political ends, as well as the ways in which artists and intellectuals navigated these repressive systems. We will trace how artistic expression, and legal systems have been shaped by – and, at times, have resisted – totalitarian control. By examining some historical cases, we also gain insight into the broader questions of artistic autonomy, cultural manipulation, and the role of law in shaping society. 

This conference brings together scholars from Italy, Hungary and Romania to explore the intersections of law, culture, and totalitarian power.

Jog, művészet és propaganda a 20. századi totalitárius rendszerekben
 

A totalitárius rendszerek régóta felismerték a kultúra erejét. Nemcsak propagandaeszközként használták, hanem a nemzeti identitás formálására, az ideológia megerősítésére és az ellenzék elhallgattatásának eszközeként is. A konferencia előadásai feltárják az autoriter uralom, művészi kifejezésmód és a jogi struktúrák közötti mély és aggasztó kapcsolatrendszert. 

Az eseményen különböző területeket vizsgálunk meg az építészettől a filmművészetig, a szobrászattól az operáig, a jogtól az utcai művészetig. Hogyan használták fel a művészeti és jogi kereteket politikai célok elérésére? Hogyan helyezkedtek a művészek és értelmiségiek a nyomás alatt ezekben a rendszerekben? Nyomon követjük, hogyan alakította a művészi kifejezésmódot és a jogi rendszereket a totalitárius kontroll és az ellene munkálkodó erők, történelmi példák vizsgálatával pedig betekinthetünk a művészi autonómia, a kulturális manipuláció és a jog társadalomformáló szerepének mélyebb kérdéseibe. 

A konferencián olaszországi, magyarországi és romániai kutatók közösen tárják fel a jog, kultúra és a totalitárius hatalom metszéspontjait.

Drept, artă și propagandă în regimurile totalitare ale secolului XX


Regimurile totalitare au conștientizat și folosit puterea culturii în scop politic, de-a lungul vremii. Aceasta nu a fost utilizată doar ca instrument de propagandă, ci și ca mijloc de formare a identității naționale, de consolidare a ideologiei și de suprimare a opoziției. Prelegerile din cadrul conferinței vor analiza rețeaua profundă de relații dintre guvernarea autoritară, expresia artistică și structurile juridice. 

În cadrul evenimentului vor fi examinate diverse domenii, de la arhitectură la cinematografie, de la sculptură la operă, de la drept la street art. Cum au fost utilizate cadrele artistice și juridice în scopuri politice? Cum au reușit artiștii și intelectualii să navigheze în aceste sisteme opresive? Vom urmări modul în care expresia artistică și sistemele juridice au fost modelate de forțele controlului totalitar, dar și de cele care i s-au opus. Prin analiza unor exemple istorice, vom aprofunda întrebări legate de libertatea artistică, propaganda prin cultură și rolul dreptului în modelarea societății. 

Conferința reunește cercetători din Italia, Ungaria și România pentru a explora punctele de intersecție dintre drept, cultură și puterea totalitară.
