Artificial intelligence is everywhere – powering news feeds, curating search results and invisibly steering our lives. We talk to it and, increasingly, it talks back. And sometimes its answers seem eerily smart… Until they don't.
There is almost no field nowadays, where you are not exposed to hearing and talking about Artificial Intelligence and its wonders. Despite its defects, millions of dollars and an infinite amount of hype is being poured in AI. Enter Emmanuel Maggiori, AI veteran who comes to disillusion you about what machines are capable of. Uncovering unreasonable expectations, shady practices, and false information, he published the revealing book 'Smart Until It's Dumb' in 2023. Emmanuel's mission is to spread the word about the deceptively simple mechanisms behind AI's remarkable achievements and expose the industry's hidden truths.
Dr Emmanuel Maggiori is a London-based computer scientist, author and a 10-year AI industry insider. He has developed AI for a wide variety of applications, from extracting objects from satellite images to packaging holiday deals for millions of travelers every day. He's the author of the book Smart Until It's Dumb: Why artificial intelligence keeps making epic mistakes (and why the AI bubble will burst). He studied software engineering in Argentina and then did a PhD at Inria, the French national IT research lab. He has worked as a data scientist in the travel sector, where he wrote algorithms you have most likely used yourself a few times. Since then, he has been working independently as a software engineer and data scientist.
The discussion’s moderator will be Borbála Hatházy, Project Manager of the international relations department at MCC. She holds an MA in International Relations and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African studies in London, and a BA in Chinese and English linguistics from Babes-Bolyai University.

A mesterséges intelligencia mindenütt jelen van – táplálja a hírfolyamokat, kurátorként kezeli a keresési eredményeket, és láthatatlanul irányítja az életünket. Beszélünk hozzá, és egyre gyakrabban válaszol is. Néha a válaszai hátborzongatóan okosnak tűnnek... Amíg rá nem jövünk, hogy nem azok.
Manapság szinte nincs olyan terület, ahol ne hallanánk és ne beszélnénk a mesterséges intelligenciáról és annak csodáiról. Hibái ellenére dollármilliókat fektetnek bele, és nagymértékű népszerűsítés zajlik. Eseményünkön Emmanuel Maggiori MI-veterán kiábrándítja a közönséget a gépek képességeivel kapcsolatban. 2023-ban jelent meg Smart Until It's Dumb című könyve, amelyben a szerző ésszerűtlen elvárásokat, kétes gyakorlatokat és hamis információkat leplez le. Argentínában tanult szoftvermérnöknek, majd az Inria francia nemzeti informatikai kutatólaboratóriumban doktorált. Adatkutatóként dolgozott az utazási szektorban, algoritmusait valószínűleg te magad is használtad már. Jelenleg önálló szoftvermérnök és adattudós.
A beszélgetés moderátora Hatházy Borbála, az MCC nemzetközi kapcsolatok csapatának projektmenedzsere. A londoni School of Oriental and African Studies nemzetközi kapcsolatok és diplomácia szakán szerzett mesteri diplomát, az alapképzést a Babeș–Bolyai Tudományegyetem kínai és angol nyelvészet szakán végezte.

Noi vorbim cu ea și, din ce în ce mai mult, ea ne răspunde. Iar uneori răspunsurile sale par ciudat de inteligente... Până când ne dăm seama că defapt nu sunt.
Aproape că nu există domeniu în zilele noastre în care să nu fim expuși să auzim și să vorbim despre inteligența artificială și minunile sale. În ciuda defectelor sale, milioane de dolari și o cantitate uriașă de resurse sunt investite în IA.
La următorul eveniment din seria Transylvania Lectures, Emmanuel Maggiori, veteran în domeniul AI, va deziluziona publicul cu privire la ceea ce sunt capabile mașinile. Descoperind așteptări nerezonabile, practici dubioase și infomații false, el a publicat cartea „Smart Until It's Dumb” în 2023. Ea deține un master în relații internaționale și diplomație de la School of Oriental and African studies din Londra și o diplomă în lingvistică chineză și engleză de la Universitatea Babeș-Bolyai.
