Transylvania Lectures: Generating ‘Us’ and ‘Them’ – The Psycho-Politics of Inclusion and Exclusion
Is it ‘natural’ to be suspicious of strangers and their strange ways? Is it natural for groups of people to feel hostile and antagonistic towards other groups of people? Is ‘difference’ and ‘ignorance’ the source of the problem?
At the next event of the Transylvania Lectures series Dr. Farhad Dalal will take up these and other similar questions to argue that human groupings are not found but made. He will argue that power-relations are critical to these processes, because they inform the ways that emotional and cognitive mechanisms are mobilised, to both produce and sustain, ‘us’ and ‘them’ groupings. He will engage critically with Multiculturalist, Anti-Racist and Diversity discourses and their ways of thinking about these issues.
Dr. Farhad Dalal is a British psychotherapist and group analyst, working with individuals, groups, and organizations. He has been in independent practice for more than thirty years, initially in London and now in Devon. Dr. Dalal writes, teaches, and lectures in Britain and internationally. With colleagues, he recently started delivering a group psychotherapy training in India. He has published four books to date: Taking the Group Seriously; Race, Colour and the Processes of Racialization; Thought Paralysis: The Virtues of Discrimination; and CBT – The Cognitive Behavioural Tsunami: Managerialism, Politics and the Corruptions of Science.
His partner in this discussion will be Ildikó Knop, monitoring expert at Sepsi Local Action Group. She has been working with the association since 2018, which intervenes in the deteriorating urban areas of Sepsiszentgyörgy with community-led local development. She has worked as a facilitator in several projects and has extensive experience as an institutional facilitator in the field of social inclusion and community empowerment of disadvantaged groups at risk of poverty and Roma. Her professional life has been focused on issues such as participatory processes, inclusive city, housing and school desegregation, broad community development and cultural audience development, and introducing young people to community-centred thinking.

Transylvania Lectures: A „mi” és „ők” létrehozása - A befogadás és kirekesztés pszichopolitikája
Vajon természetes, hogy gyanakvóak vagyunk az idegenekkel és számunkra furcsa szokásaikkal szemben? Természetes-e, hogy egész embercsoportok ellenségesen viszonyulnak másokhoz? A másság és a tudatlanság lenne a probléma forrása?
A Transylvania Lectures sorozat következő rendezvényén dr. Farhad Dalal ilyen és hasonló kérdéseket vet fel, miközben amellett érvel, hogy az emberi csoportosulások nem maguktól alakulnak ki, hanem létrehozzák őket. Továbbá kifejti, hogy a hatalmi viszonyok jelentős szerepet játszanak ezekben a folyamatokban, mivel áthatják az érzelmi és kognitív mechanizmusok mozgósításának módjait, amivel létrehozzák és fenntartják a „mi” és „ők” csoportosításokat. A szakember emellett kritikusan áll hozzá a multikulturalista, antirasszista és sokszínűségi diskurzusokhoz és az említett kérdésekről való gondolkodásmódjukhoz.
Dr. Farhad Dalal brit pszichoterapeuta és csoportelemző, aki egyénekkel, csoportokkal és szervezetekkel is dolgozik. Több mint harminc éve folytat független praxist, kezdetben Londonban, jelenleg Devonban. Író, oktató és előadó, Nagy-Britanniában és nemzetközileg is tevékenykedik. Munkatársaival a közelmúltban kezdett csoportos pszichoterápiás képzéseket tartani Indiában. Eddig négy könyve jelent meg: Taking the Group Seriously; Race, Colour and the Processes of Racialization; Thought Paralysis: The Virtues of Discrimination; and CBT – The Cognitive Behavioural Tsunami: Managerialism, Politics and the Corruptions of Science.
Beszélgetőtársa Knop Ildikó, a Sepsi Helyi Akciócsoport Egyesület monitoring-szakértője. 2018 óta az egyesület munkatársa, amely a közösségvezérelt helyi fejlesztés alapelvei mentén avatkozik be Sepsiszentgyörgy leromló városi övezeteibe. Több projektben dolgozott facilitátorként, és kiterjedt intézményi facilitátori tapasztalata van a társadalmi befogadás és a szegénység által veszélyeztetett, hátrányos helyzetű csoportok és a romák közösségi felzárkóztatása terén. Szakmai életében olyan témák foglalkoztatják, mint a participatív folyamatok, a befogadó város, a lakhatási és iskolai deszegregáció, a széleskörű közösségfejlesztés és a kulturális közönségfejlesztés, valamint a fiatalok bevezetése a közösségközpontú gondolkodásba.

Este „natural” să fii suspicios față de străini și față de obiceiurile lor ciudate? Este firesc ca grupurile de oameni să simtă ostilitate față de alte grupuri? Oare diferența și ignoranța sunt sursele problemei?
În cadrul următorului eveniment din seria Transylvania Lectures, Dr. Farhad Dalal va aborda aceste întrebări și altele similare pentru a susține că grupările umane nu se formează de la sine, ci sunt create. El explică, de asemenea, că relațiile de putere joacă un rol semnificativ în aceste procese, deoarece acestea pătrund în modurile în care mecanismele emoționale și cognitive sunt mobilizate pentru a crea și menține grupările „noi” și „ei”. Expertul va analiza discursurile multiculturaliste, antirasiste și de diversitate și în modul în care acestea abordează aceste probleme.

Interlocutoarea sa la această discuție va fi Ildikó Knop, expert în monitorizare la Asociația Grup de Acțiune Locală sepsi. Lucrează din 2018 la asociația care intervine în zonele urbane deteriorate din Sfântu Gheorghe pe baza principiilor dezvoltării locale conduse de comunitate. A lucrat ca facilitator în mai multe proiecte și are o experiență vastă ca facilitator instituțional în domeniul incluziunii sociale și al responsabilizării comunitare a grupurilor defavorizate aflate în risc de sărăcie și a romilor. Interesele sale profesionale se axează pe teme precum procesele participative, orașul incluziv, desegregarea locuințelor și a școlilor, dezvoltarea comunitară extinsă și dezvoltarea publicului cultural, precum și introducerea tinerilor în gândirea centrată pe comunitate.
Evenimentul se va desfășura în limba engleză, cu traducere simultană disponibilă în limba maghiară.
